Black Cake is the traditional Caribbean, Christmas, Fruit Cake with a time-consuming, labor-intensive recipe. 

History of the Black Cake

The origin of black cake, related to British fruit cake, traces back to indigenous and African people who were enslaved by English colonizers and forced to produce sugar. The initial recipe for this: molasses-, rum, and spice-filled cake, likely made its way to New England, during the slave trade. The original Caribbean recipe is dense with dried fruit such as raisins, currants, and candied citron, plus spices like nutmeg, cinnamon, and mace.

The end result is far from your average cake: It's a heavy dessert with a rich, dark hue, velvety texture, and smooth, slightly, nuanced flavor. (excerpt from article by Ceara Milligan).

Trevolyn Sullivan is the sole proprietor of Decadent Delicious Black Cakes LLC. She loved cooking and baking but hated following strict recipes.  That was until she tasted her mother-in-law’s scrumptious black cake. The latter was second to no other and when she inherited the actual recipe, she followed it to the tee. Initially she would offer her friends and family an occasional slice of the cake but then these individuals started asking her to sell them this delicious treat. This was the beginning of a small business opportunity.  The cakes needed little promotion but actually sold themselves. Customers had no problems giving them away as gifts to their friends and colleagues who, in turn, ordered and gifted them to others. Thus, the business was birthed.

 

The traditional cakes are available in a variety of decorative, covered tins and can easily be dislodged from the containers to a cake stand and served.

 

We attempt to keep in sync with the ever-changing tastes and dietary preferences of our client base and so we are introducing our Vegan-Supreme Black Cake. This non-dairy product addresses the dietary requirements of our vegan clients and so we have replaced the traditional butter and eggs with plant based alternatives.

Our newest product is our Mini Bundt Black Cakes which are each  plastic-sealed and packaged  in its own individualized cake box. Treat yourself to these elegant, personalized delicacies. They are perfect as  gifts  for your friends, coworkers or simply include them in the  "goody bag" at the conclusion of your next spectacular event .

A consummate perfectionist, Trev sees each cake as a work of art and practices her trade with flair and finesse. The end-product is a visually appealing, delicious tasting, artistically presented Black Cake. The discriminating consumer is her best customer.
